Post-milking

Post-milking disinfection is essential when the cows are detached from the unit. The process is crucial for preventing udder infections: applying a suitable disinfectant on the entire surface of the teat is the most efficient method to cut down the bacterial load on the skin and to reduce penetration of pathogens into the breast through the teat canal, which remains open for at least half an hour after milking.

This time lapse allows environmental bacteria to successfully penetrate the physical defences of the udder with the subsequent development of an inflammatory process.
